About ME

Kate Schmier is a writer and editor who has been on staff at a women's magazine, a nonprofit addiction treatment center, and a scientific research institute. Her fiction and nonfiction have been featured by CNN, NPR, Tin House, Apogee Journal, Lilith, and others. A graduate of the University of Michigan and Sarah Lawrence College, she is the recipient an Elizabeth George Foundation grant, the Freya Project's Meret grant, and a fellowship from the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. She is a native of suburban Detroit and lives in Harlem with her husband, a jazz saxophonist, and their son. She is a proud mentor alum of the writing and mentoring organization Girls Write Now.
